Stetson Meadows Cemetery, Norwell, MA

 

The Town of Norwell determined that this site, which sits wholly in the Natural Heritage protected habitat of the Eastern Box Turtle and is crossed by two natural trails used by walkers and horseback riders alike, should be a new town cemetery as the existing cemetery is close to capacity.

The design and installation by Helen Bush Sittler has preserved a large contiguous habitat area and the natural trails while making place for a columbarium, a memorial grove, and an historic building.

Native stone walls stepping down the site’s contours house a columbarium, the niches visible only from a private viewing vantage.
