Norman E. Day School – Westford, MA

This classroom addition focused on designing a masonry gabled building with low maintenance considerations. It provided five large 1200 SF classrooms, technology links, corridor connection into the existing school, ADA accessible toilet rooms, a mechanical room and the provision for adding five or more future classrooms. The addition met energy compliance with the latest State energy codes and included fenestration openings with roof overhangs that allow for maximum winter sunshine gain and minimal summer sun. As there were wetlands on site, environmental issues such as 200-foot barriers were of prime consideration, as well as working alongside the Westford Conservation Commission.
